Maintaining Maintenance Instructors

Maintenance Instructors keep in touch with the aviation community

Years of aviation maintenance experience in the field are hard to beat in an Aviation Maintenance Technology instructor. However, daily life in a classroom sometimes insulates career faculty from the aviation maintenance industry. The instructional staff of Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Atlanta was fortunate in finding a method of keeping maintenance instructors in touch with the aviation community.

On November 7, the instructional staff attended a full day of aviation maintenance seminars sponsored by Aviall, the world's largest independent provider of new aerospace parts and related aftermarket services. Presentations were given by manufacturers of batteries, carburetors, and propellers, as well as a course on PT-6 turbine engine maintenance.

"It was a great learning experience," according to Scott Bedenbaugh, Director of Education. "A good instructor is always learning, and we hope to give our instructors all the opportunities we can." Keeping current in the ever changing field of aviation maintenance is a must. With seminars such as this one, the staff at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance Atlanta can keep current not only on aviation maintenance but aircraft technology, reliability, support issues and aviation policies.

New knowledge was not all that came back to the Aviation Institute of Maintenance Atlanta. Part-time maintenance instructor John Artz came back with the grand door prize, a Hartzell wood propeller. We at AIM would like to thank Mr. Artz for donating the propeller to the school for use as a teaching aid.
