Fabric Covering – Team Chesapeake [Photos]

The Nieuport 24 aircraft that the students are building at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) Team Chesapeake in Chesapeake, Virginia is moving along. This past week Oliver Faulk is utilizing what he learned in class and applying it immediately by covering one of the flight controls for our Nieuport 24. In the following pictures he is working the material and heating it up to tighten the fabric. Once the fabric is in place and tight he is shown taking a razor blade and closely cutting the excess material off. The flight control turned out great. Oliver says he really enjoys working on this project and he is doing a fantastic job! In the next couple of days we should have the left wing completed /installed so check back soon for more pictures on that.

If you are looking for an aviation school to get your Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate look no further because here at Team Chesapeake, Virginia, AIM has great student projects like building a World War One Aircraft to get involved in not to mention just minutes away to the best beaches in the mid-Atlantic!

Team Chesapeake – Left Wings In Place! [Photos]

Last week the left wing outboard cabane struts were welded and now we have them installed. We also have the support cables connected and the upper and lower wing is secured in place without any outside support! We are very happy to make it to this stage and our Nieuport 24 is looking good!

Want to give a shout out to some new student team members, Travis Parker and Anthony Ericksen. Welcome!

Join our school and help us make history with our Nieuport 24 aircraft build.

The Aviation Institute of Maintenance – Team Chesapeake is working on the lower wing aft support bracket. Once they get this support done and get over their learning curve they will be set for the right wing. They are making progress as you can see in the pictures. A little more welding should do it and then they can move over to the right wing. Please click on each picture to get a close up of the item. Check back soon for more exciting pictures of Team Chesapeake’s Nieuport 24 World War One aircraft.

Welding Cabanes on the Nieuport 24 Aircraft – Aviation Institute of Maintenance – Team Chesapeake [Photos]

The Aviation Institute of Maintenance – Team Chesapeake is working on the Cabane struts for the upper wing. In the following pictures you will see the forward and the aft struts with the superb welding that one of our students is doing. Kudos goes out to James Lester for welding. We removed the instrument cluster for this task to get more room. The ailerons are now connected and they move probably. After the front Cabane struts are done we will be welding that small support, aft of the strut also. Next we are working on getting the lower wing attached. Please click on pictures to see more detail and check back soon!

Thanks for looking!
