About The Aviation Institute of Maintenance
The history of our parent organization began within the area of education and career services in Norfolk, Virginia, during 1969. Shortly thereafter, we moved from the financial district out to the suburbs where we remained until 1977. That year a new building was purchased in Virginia Beach, to house the expanding group of companies. In 1986, the corporation was selected by INC. magazine as 178th of the 500 fastest growing, privately held companies in America.
Since the purchase of our first aviation school in 1994, Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) has become a group of aviation maintenance technician career schools that are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The schools are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSC). Our goal is to provide a quality education and career services opportunity for each of our graduates.
With a considerable history in the maintenance, repair, and operations of sophisticated aircraft, our first aviation school was acquired and renamed Tidewater Tech Aviation. It is located near Norfolk International Airport. The school has experienced considerable growth, and in 1997 an FAA Educational Resource Center was established in the school's library, and Tidewater Tech became an FAA approved testing center. In January of 2003, the school was renamed Aviation Institute of Maintenance.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania became home to our second school with the acquisition of Quaker City Institute of Aviation in 1997. Originally established in 1946, the school was acquired and relocated to its current location at the North East Philadelphia Airport. The name was changed to Aviation Institute of Maintenance in December 2002.
In the beginning of 1998, Gwinnett County became home to the third campus of Aviation Institute of Maintenance. The school was located at Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a suburb in the northeastern area of Greater Atlanta. The school was operated at the third busiest airport in Georgia. In 2010, the campus moved to a bigger facility in Duluth, Georgia where students continue to pursue their education and career goals.
Trans World Technical Academy (TWTA), a department of Trans World Airlines (TWA) was established in 1990 in Kansas City, Missouri. TWA sold TWTA to the corporation in November, 2000. The school was renamed Aviation Institute of Maintenance and it became our fourth aviation school and our first school west of the Mississippi.
